The xAI team is seeking a dynamic Senior Civil Engineer to join our team and support the operation, design and optimization of our data center's physical infrastructure. This role is pivotal in ensuring the structural integrity, compliance, and efficiency of our facilities. The Sr. Civil Engineer will be integral in managing the lifecycle of the data center's civil aspects from initial planning through to expansion projects. We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Sr. Civil Engineer to lead and contribute to our infrastructure projects at our Memphis data center. This role will be pivotal in overseeing the design, development, and implementation of civil engineering projects to support our state-of-the-art facilities. The ideal candidate will bring a comprehensive understanding of civil engineering principles, particularly as they relate to large-scale commercial or industrial projects.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate on a broad spectrum of planning, construction, and renovation projects for our current infrastructure.
- Advance structural designs by developing and optimizing plans for site build out.
- Uphold design and safety standards by applying knowledge during project evaluations and on-site assessments.
- Refine design concepts, product offerings, sustainability practices, and standard templates to continuously improve upcoming projects.
- Manage design proposals by creating, evaluating, and issuing requests for proposals on structural designs.
- Spearhead efforts to increase project quality, timelines, uniformity, or optimize/cut costs for both current and planned developments.
- Well-versed in national, regional, and local laws, predicting future regulatory changes, and informing project management of compliance matters.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve common objectives like timely delivery, high-quality work, and increasing team morale.
- Direct structural engineers through project audits, design phases, and implementation, ensuring alignment with internal teams.
- Ensure operational continuity by adhering to and enforcing project guidelines and operational protocols.
- Handle construction and enhancement projects concurrently, ensuring safety and service continuity.
Basic Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in civil engineering, with a focus on large-scale commercial or industrial projects.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or similar software.
- Strong project management skills with a track record of delivering projects on time and within budget
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Preferred Skills & Experience:
- B.S. in Civil Engineering; Master’s degree preferred.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred
- Methodical troubleshooting approach
- Strong documentation and communication skill set
- Technical project management mindset
- Team-player, takes initiative and highly motivated
- Familiarity with Memphis area civil engineering practices and regulations is advantageous.
Additional Requirements:
- Ability to work for extended periods of time standing, when needed
- Work is often performed in tight quarters and physical dexterity is necessary to perform job functions
- Comfortable working in an environment requiring exposure to noise
- Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed
- Ability to lift or carry maximum of 25 lbs
