xAI is seeking an engaging and professional security champion to support the ongoing growth of the organization’s security program.

Reporting to the Security Manager, the Security Operations Lead will help manage physical security operations at xAI’s Memphis data center. The ideal candidate has a bias for action, is trustworthy, and consistently demonstrates excellence. Working with minimal supervision, they will regularly interface with key stakeholders and provide security direction toward continuously reducing security risks. The position may have direct reports based on the needs of the organization.

This is an in-person role based in Memphis, Tennessee and will require about 5-10% travel.

Responsibilities

  • Practice a customer service mindset in driving a culture of security awareness across the business.
  • Ability to serve in a leadership role, as needed, in the absence of the Security Manager
  • Establish written security policies and procedures
  • Provide oversight of a contract guard force
  • Establish capabilities and visibility into logistics and supply chain security; maintain coordination on behalf of company with vendors and contractors
  • Create an employee travel safety program
  • Create security briefings for employees, vendors, and contractors working at the data center and other xAI sites as needed
  • Coordinate with cross-functional business partners to proactively identify, mitigate and manage operational risks
  • Coordinate and manage responses to incidents as needed to address threats directed towards any staff, physical assets, or operations
  • Design and implement procedural security measures for employees, vendors, and contractors, especially during construction cycles.
  • Manage security spends and drive cost efficiencies to support a financially sustainable security practice including collaboration with team members and managing vendor relationships toward this goal.
  • Report and analyze all established security metrics, addressing improvement areas. Provide first-line supervision, mentoring and leadership of security staff.
  • Foster security awareness by preparing, conducting or coordinating security training courses, site risk assessments, or other informational campaigns.
  • Respond to emergency situations (fire/medical/suspicious person/etc.)
  • Support initiatives to strengthen external partnerships with local and state law enforcement, federal agencies, third party vendors and community organizations

Basic Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate
  • 5+ years of experience in physical security, risk management, loss prevention, emergency preparedness or law enforcement
  • Must be able to obtain a security license, hold a valid driver’s license, and travel as required

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • 3+ years of experience in a supervisory role
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, formal training in verbal de-escalation preferred, as well as the ability to think clearly, problem solve, scope process requirements, and prioritize tasks
  • Former law enforcement, military, emergency operations
  • Working knowledge and oversight of various security systems and technologies. Hands-on experience coordinating and leading training events in a corporate setting
  • Demonstrated ability to lead emergency operations as well as able to manage stress and respond quickly to security, safety, and sensitive situations
  • Strong training and instructor experience is a plus
  • Public safety and emergency experience, such as First Aid / CPR training
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
  • Basic knowledge of and experience with various security system electronics

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to work for extended periods of time standing, when needed
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed
  • Ability to lift or carry 40-50lbs
  • Ability to effectively execute duties in extreme outdoor environments – heat, cold, rain
  • Position is subject to pre-employment drug and random drug and alcohol testing

Compensation and Benefits

  • Pay Range: $110,000 - $140,000 per year

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.

Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at xAI.
