Electrification Coach - Residential Clean Energy Upgrade Advisor
Position Overview
QuitCarbon is looking for a passionate and knowledgeable Electrification Coach to guide and motivate homeowners through their transition from fossil fuel appliances to clean electric alternatives. As an Electrification Coach, you will serve as a trusted advisor, helping customers navigate the complex landscape of clean energy upgrades, including heat pumps, electric vehicles, solar panels, battery storage, induction stoves, and more.
You won’t sell anything, as QuitCarbon’s service is free to homeowners - but you will help our homeowner clients gain the confidence and wherewithal to proceed with home electrification upgrades - which means you’ll help homeowners buy with confidence and clarity.
You’ll also work with our contractor partners, helping them connect with motivated homeowners, provide great proposals, and get electrification done!
Key Responsibilities
Customer Consultation & Planning
Conduct electrification consultations via Zoom.
Explain and refine computer-generated electrification roadmaps based on each homeowner's specific needs, budget, and timeline.
Educate customers on the benefits, costs, and implementation strategies for various electric technologies.
Provide guidance on optimal sequencing of electrification upgrades to maximize efficiency and cost savings.
Support and motivate customers via ongoing email, SMS, and Zoom communications.
Technical Expertise & Education
Stay current on electric appliance technologies, including heat pumps, induction cooktops, heat pump water heaters, EV charging solutions, solar, batteries, etc.
Explain complex technical concepts in accessible language for diverse customer audiences.
Contractor Connections
Connect customers with vetted contractors, installers, and equipment suppliers.
Conduct follow-up consultations to ensure customer satisfaction and system performance.
Data & Software
Document customer interactions, recommendations, and outcomes in our software and our CRM system (HubSpot).
Experiment with AI tools, incorporating them into your workflow, and sharing your AI discoveries with your colleagues.
Contribute to improvements of our software and CRM by providing customer feedback and market insights.
If you feel like you don’t meet all of the requirements for this role, QuitCarbon encourages you to apply anyway. We know the confidence gap and imposter syndrome gets in the way of meeting incredible candidates, and don’t want it to get in the way of meeting you.
What We Look For
Must Have
2+ years of experience in homeowner-facing sales, customer support, customer success, business development, or similar in clean energy (solar/battery, heat pumps, water heaters, induction stoves, EV charging, etc).
Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Sustainability, or a related field, OR equivalent experience in the clean energy/home improvement industry.
Motivational interviewing skills or consultative sales practice.
Understanding of at least two of: residential electrical systems, electric appliances, heat pumps, solar, batteries, EV charging, clean energy upgrade principles, rebates and incentives, home upgrade financing.
Outstanding communication skills - you love connecting with folks, engaging in a friendly and genuine way, learning about their situation, and sharing your expertise in a way that makes them feel like you’ve coached and supported them.
Effective collaboration - you know how to work with colleagues (remotely), when to seek outside resources, and when to shout “HELP!” - plus, you aren’t scared to say “I don’t know”.
A desire to constantly learn, grow, and (maybe) eventually become a player + coach. When this goes well, your role could evolve into a mix of team leadership and individual contribution.
Experience with MacOS, AI tools, CRM software (ideally HubSpot).
Nice to Have
Green building, green design or energy auditing certifications - might include: BPI, RESNET, GreenPoint, CEA, LEED, NABCEP, Home Energy Score, etc.
Background in renewable energy installations, weatherization, energy efficiency programs, or similar.
Ideally, you've completed the Rewiring America Electrification Coach training, or you are in the Switch Is On Ambassador Program, or you volunteer with a climate or energy nonprofit.
Bilingual written and verbal skills.
Experience as a quota-carrying salesperson.
Experience with high-volume customer contacts across multiple channels (email, voice, video, chat, etc).
Coaching or management of sales or customer support staff.
Experience in high-growth/early-stage tech start-up.
Experience with teaching, coaching, financial planning, retirement planning, counseling, architecture, general contracting, home services contracting.
Compensation, Benefits, and Work Environment
Hours and Location
60% time to 100%+ time (24 to 40+ hours/week).
Flexible hours - OK to work some evenings, weekends, holidays, as agreed to.
Sometimes remote (in your home office, where you can make Zoom calls), sometimes in our SF office (at Powell St BART),
If you are not within easy commute distance of SF, plan to travel to SF frequently in the first few months.
Compensation and Benefits
This role starts as a temporary hourly employee, with compensation of $40-60/hr plus performance bonuses, depending on experience. After a few months, if things go well, it is expected this role would transition to a long-term salaried employee position.

A very brief written introduction about yourself and why you’d make a great addition to our team (no more than 2-3 paragraphs, really ).

Why are you passionate about home electrification, and how do you see yourself making a positive impact as an electrification coach?

Describe a time when you successfully explained a complex concept (not necessarily electrical) to someone with limited prior knowledge.
How would you approach a homeowner who is hesitant or resistant to adopting clean energy upgrades?
Imagine a scenario where a homeowner receives conflicting information about electrification options. How would you help them navigate this situation and reach an informed decision?
How do you stay updated on the latest home electrification technologies, incentives, and best practices?
Video Tips:
Keep your responses concise and impactful within the 3-minute limit.
Focus on 2-3 key points per question rather than trying to cover everything.
Speak authentically and naturally rather than from a script - we suggest you record the video in a single first take. It rarely gets better if you keep trying!
Don’t worry about lighting, background, etc - but do ensure we can hear and see you.
