Job Summary:

Gametime seeks a Senior Backend Engineer II for the Tools and Automation team. This team is responsible for the technology that makes all the processes behind the scenes of our marketplace fast, effective, and efficient.

This role is for a senior technical leader who combines deep engineering expertise with strong ownership, accountability, and the ability to drive the direction of systems that make Gametime happen. You’ll be expected to lead initiatives end-to-end - from identifying opportunities to delivering high-quality solutions that scale across teams and domains.

As a senior leader in the org, you’ll mentor others, influence architectural direction, and represent the team’s strategy across engineering, design, product, and operations. Your domain will be comprised of both traditional and AI-driven automation (agentic) systems, ensuring that every workflow, service, and tool is efficient, resilient, and strategically aligned with company objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Drive Agentic System Design and Technical Strategy - Lead the design and architecture of AI and automated systems and platforms that enable operational excellence across Gametime. Ensure designs are extensible, observable, and evolve with the company’s growth.
  • Own Foundational Systems - Take full ownership of critical backend systems that power automation and internal tools. Define long-term roadmaps, reliability standards, and performance goals. Align team and influence the org on LLM best practices.
  • End-to-End Delivery and Accountability - Drive projects from conception through production with clear milestones, proactive risk management, and measurable outcomes. Champion quality, maintainability, and operational excellence.
  • Lead Cross-Functional Execution - Partner with Product, Design, and Operations to translate complex business workflows into scalable automation. Anticipate future needs and ensure systems are built for change, not just completion.
  • Technical Stewardship and Mentorship - Elevate the technical bar by mentoring teammates through design reviews, code reviews, and collaborative programming sessions. Shape best practices and foster a culture of thoughtful, deliberate engineering.
  • AI and Automation Leadership - Leverage AI Code Generation tools to accelerate delivery while enforcing standards of clarity, reliability, and test coverage. Apply LLMs and automation thoughtfully, using them where they create strategic value.
  • Influence Beyond Code - Demonstrate ownership of the team’s mission by identifying high-impact opportunities, advocating for bold solutions, and ensuring alignment with Gametime’s strategic priorities.
  • Cultural and Organizational Impact - Contribute to building an inclusive, growth-oriented culture. Take initiative in defining how the team learns, collaborates, and scales its impact.

Key Competencies:

Problem-Solving and Decision-Making:

  • Problem Solving: Demonstrates strong critical thinking and decision-making abilities, especially in situations that have nuanced workflows and systems.
